Gain skills that will future-proof your career by joining Design Thinking Week at the Hasso Plattner d-school Afrika* at UCT.
Calling all registered students at UCT and other higher education institutions: if you're under the age of 35, we invite you to join us for a fast, high-energy, five-day immersion into design-led thinking — one that sharpens your ability to navigate an uncertain world and stand out in the job market.
Over five days, you'll be introduced to the key mindsets and problem-solving methods of design thinking, and put them straight to work. Rather than hypothetical case studies, you'll be paired with a real project partner facing a genuine, complex challenge — learning to understand real people and develop innovative, human-centred solutions in agile, multidisciplinary teams.
This course will help you:
- Build the skills employers are looking for as you enter the working world, mastering the Four C's — critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration.
- Work alongside students from entirely different disciplines, and turn diverse perspectives into better ideas.
- Move from understanding a problem to prototyping and testing real solutions, quickly and hands-on.
- Build the creative confidence to tackle ambiguity and take action rather than wait for perfect conditions.
You'll leave with a practical toolkit, a design-led mindset you can apply to any future project or career path, and a certificate of completion — at no cost to accepted students.
